About Destination Booklist

I’m Alex, a reader and traveler who has always believed that the best way to understand a place is through its stories. A novel set in Istanbul can teach you more about the city than any guidebook, and a memoir from Patagonia can make you feel the wind before you ever board a plane.

Destination Booklist grew out of a simple habit: every time I planned a trip, I’d hunt for fiction and nonfiction rooted in where I was headed. Over time those reading lists piled up, and I thought they might be useful to other people too.

How it works

Every book here is hand-picked for how vividly it captures a destination — its culture, landscape, and people. I look for titles that go beyond surface-level tourism and offer something genuine: a sense of place you can carry with you whether you visit in person or only from your reading chair.
